About

DIAPRIDE M2 TAB is a combination medication used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, containing Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that primarily stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells by closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels, thereby increasing insulin secretion. Metformin, a biguanide, acts by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. This dual mechanism of action provides a comprehensive approach to lower blood glucose levels, addressing both insulin secretion defects and insulin resistance, leading to significant improvements in glycemic control for patients whose diabetes is not adequately controlled by monotherapy.

Uses

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise.
  • When monotherapy with Glimepiride or Metformin is insufficient.
  • To achieve better glycemic control in adults.

Directions For Use

Take orally, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Adhere strictly to your physician's prescribed dosage.

Benefits

  • Significant reduction in HbA1c.
  • Potent glucose-lowering effect.
  • Dual mechanism of action.
  • Improved fasting and post-prandial glucose.
  • Cost-effective treatment option.
  • Long-standing efficacy in diabetes management.

Side Effects

  • Hypoglycemia (common)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Metallic taste
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Weight gain
  • Skin rash
  • Allergic reactions
  • Lactic acidosis (rare but serious)

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol consumption due to increased risk of hypoglycemia (with Glimepiride) and lactic acidosis (with Metformin).
  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy. Insulin is generally preferred for glycemic control in pregnant women with diabetes.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended as components may pass into breast milk and cause hypoglycemia in the infant. Consult a healthcare professional.
  • Liver - Use with caution; Metformin is contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment. Glimepiride metabolism may be affected, increasing hypoglycemia risk.
  • Kidney - Metformin is contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²). Glimepiride should be used with caution and dose adjusted in renal impairment due to increased risk of hypoglycemia.
  • Lung - Severe respiratory insufficiency can increase the risk of lactic acidosis with Metformin.
