About
Glivec 400mg Tablet contains the active ingredient imatinib, an antineoplastic medicine belonging to the class of tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It is used in adults and children to treat chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), a type of blood cancer in which certain abnormal white blood cells grow uncontrollably. It is also indicated for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome‑positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph‑positive ALL) and certain types of gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST), which are cancers that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may spread to other parts of the body.
Glivec 400mg Tablet is also used to treat myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a group of blood disorders in which some blood cells grow abnormally. Additionally, it is prescribed for hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukaemia (CEL), conditions in which a type of white blood cell called eosinophils increases excessively. This medicine is also indicated for dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a rare cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin, characterised by abnormal cell growth. Imatinib works by blocking the action of specific tyrosine kinases, thereby inhibiting the growth of these abnormal cells.
Do not take Glivec 400mg Tablet if you are allergic to imatinib or any of its ingredients. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have kidney, heart, or liver problems, thyroid disorders, or if your thyroid gland has been removed. Tell your doctor if you have had or currently have hepatitis B, as this medicine can cause the infection to become active again. Report symptoms such as unusual bruising, bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion while taking this medicine. Be aware that Glivec may affect fertility.
