About
Imatirel 400mg Tablet contains the active ingredient imatinib, an antineoplastic medication classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It is used to treat both adults and children with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), a type of cancer where certain abnormal white blood cells multiply uncontrollably. It is also indicated for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph-positive ALL).
Additionally, Imatirel is used to manage specific types of gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST), which are cancers that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may spread to other areas of the body. The medicine is also prescribed for myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD)—a group of blood disorders where certain blood cells grow abnormally—as well as hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and chronic eosinophilic leukaemia (CEL), conditions involving an overproduction of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. Furthermore, it is used to treat dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a rare cancer of the tissue beneath the skin marked by abnormal cell growth. Imatirel works by inhibiting the proliferation of these abnormal cells.
Do not use Imatirel if you are allergic to imatinib or any of its components. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart issues, thyroid disorders, or if you have had your thyroid gland removed. Let your healthcare provider know if you have a history of hepatitis B, as the medication may reactivate the virus. Be sure to report symptoms such as unusual bruising, bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion. Also, be aware that this medicine may affect fertility.
