About

Matibenz 400mg Tablet, containing albendazole, is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic medication used to treat a variety of parasitic worm infections. It works by selectively binding to beta-tubulin in the intestinal cells of the parasites, thereby inhibiting microtubule polymerization. This disruption impairs glucose uptake and energy metabolism in the worms, leading to their immobilization and eventual death. Its efficacy extends to both adult and larval forms of many nematodes and some cestodes, making it a versatile agent in antiparasitic therapy.

Matibenz is particularly effective against infections such as neurocysticercosis, hydatid disease, ascariasis, hookworm, and pinworm. The drug is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, but absorption is significantly enhanced when taken with a fatty meal, which is crucial for systemic infections like neurocysticercosis. Treatment duration and dosage vary depending on the type and severity of the parasitic infection, always requiring medical guidance.
