About
PRICHAK M-1 contains Metformin, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the biguanide class, primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin works by several mechanisms to lower blood glucose levels. Its main action is to reduce glucose production by the liver, a process known as hepatic gluconeogenesis. Additionally, it improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, such as muscle and fat cells, allowing them to absorb and utilize glucose more effectively from the bloodstream. Metformin also decreases the absorption of glucose from the gastrointestinal tract.
Unlike some other antidiabetic agents, Metformin does not typically cause weight gain and has a lower risk of hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. It is often the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes, especially in overweight or obese patients, and is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to achieve optimal glycemic control and reduce the long-term complications associated with diabetes.
