TELMA AM is a combination medication comprising Telmisartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), and Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). This synergistic combination is primarily prescribed for the management of essential hypertension. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptors, preventing the binding of angiotensin II, which leads to vasodilation and a reduction in blood pressure. Amlodipine, on the other hand, inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral arterial vasodilation and a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance.
