About

ZITEN M 20/500 TAB is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Teneligliptin 20mg and Metformin 500mg, prescribed for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Teneligliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) in the body. These hormones enhance glucose-dependent insulin secretion from the pancreas and suppress glucagon secretion, leading to improved blood glucose control. Metformin, a biguanide, complements this action by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues.

This synergistic combination addresses multiple pathophysiological defects in Type 2 diabetes, offering comprehensive glycemic management. It is particularly beneficial for patients who have not achieved adequate blood sugar control with diet, exercise, or monotherapy. By effectively lowering both fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels, ZITEN M 20/500 helps to reduce HbA1c and minimize the risk of long-term complications associated with uncontrolled diabetes, such as cardiovascular events, kidney disease, and nerve damage, thereby improving patient outcomes and quality of life.

Uses

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
  • When diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
  • When monotherapy with Teneligliptin or Metformin is inadequate.
  • To improve glycemic control and reduce HbA1c.

  • Liver - Use with caution in moderate hepatic impairment; contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment due to Metformin.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²) due to Metformin accumulation and risk of lactic acidosis.
