About

Alsita M 50 is a fixed-dose combination medication specifically designed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, containing Alogliptin (a dipeptidyl peptidase-4, or DPP-4, inhibitor) and Metformin (a biguanide). Alogliptin enhances the body's natural ability to lower high blood glucose levels by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the release of glucagon, both in a glucose-dependent manner, primarily after meals. Metformin, a foundational antidiabetic agent, works by reducing glucose production in the liver and improving the body's sensitivity to insulin in muscle and fat cells, thereby enhancing glucose uptake and utilization. This synergistic action provides effective and comprehensive glycemic control for adults with type 2 diabetes, addressing both insulin secretion defects and insulin resistance. The combination offers a convenient and potent therapeutic option for patients who require more than monotherapy to achieve their target blood glucose levels, contributing to better long-term diabetes management and reduced risk of complications.

Uses

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults.
  • When diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
  • When Metformin monotherapy does not provide adequate glycemic control.
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise.

  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy; use only if clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended due to unknown excretion into breast milk and potential for adverse effects in the infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in hepatic impairment; Metformin is contraindicated in severe liver disease.
