About

Romiplostim is a thrombopoietin receptor agonist indicated for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in adult patients with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenia (ITP) who have had an insufficient response to corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy. It works by stimulating the production of platelets in the bone marrow, thereby increasing platelet counts and reducing the risk of bleeding. Administered via subcutaneous injection, Romiplostim offers a targeted approach to managing ITP by mimicking the natural thrombopoietin protein. Its mechanism of action involves binding to and activating the thrombopoietin receptor, leading to the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes, which are the precursor cells to platelets. This results in a sustained increase in platelet levels, helping patients maintain adequate hemostasis and improve their quality of life by reducing the frequency and severity of bleeding episodes.
