About
Rosuvastatin is a highly effective HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, commonly known as a statin, widely utilized for the management of dyslipidemia and the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the key enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver, leading to a significant reduction in low-density lipoprotein (LDL), often referred to as "bad" cholesterol, and triglycerides. Concurrently, it also provides a beneficial increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good" cholesterol. Rosuvastatin is particularly potent in lowering LDL-C and is indicated for patients at high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, including those with primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
