About

TENELIGLIP M 500MG TAB is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Teneligliptin and Metformin, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Teneligliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that works by increasing the levels of active incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones play a crucial role in glucose homeostasis by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppressing glucagon release from alpha cells in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.

Metformin, a biguanide, acts through different mechanisms, primarily by reducing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, leading to enhanced glucose uptake and utilization. The synergistic action of Teneligliptin and Metformin provides comprehensive glycemic control, addressing both fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels, and is particularly useful when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to manage type 2 diabetes.

Uses

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Improvement of glycemic control
  • Enhancement of glucose-dependent insulin secretion
  • Reduction of hepatic glucose output

  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor to discuss appropriate diabetes management options.
  • Breastfeeding - Not advised as Metformin is excreted in breast milk. Discuss safer alternatives with your healthcare provider.
  • Liver - Contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment due to the Metformin component and increased risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²) due to the risk of Metformin accumulation and lactic acidosis.
  • Lung - Generally safe for patients with lung conditions; no specific lung-related concerns or contraindications are known.
