About
Tresiba Penfill 3ml contains insulin degludec, a ultra-long-acting basal insulin analogue indicated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents, and children aged 1 year and above. Insulin degludec is designed to provide a flat and stable glucose-lowering effect for more than 42 hours, allowing for flexible once-daily dosing. Upon subcutaneous injection, it forms soluble multi-hexamers that create a subcutaneous depot, from which insulin is slowly and continuously absorbed into the circulation. This unique mechanism of action results in a consistent glucose-lowering profile with low day-to-day variability, which can help reduce the risk of nocturnal hypoglycemia compared to other basal insulins.
Tresiba is used to provide foundational basal insulin coverage, helping to maintain fasting and between-meal blood glucose levels within target ranges. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with rapid-acting insulin, oral antidiabetic agents, or GLP-1 receptor agonists. Patients should be thoroughly instructed on proper injection technique, dose titration based on blood glucose monitoring, and the importance of rotating injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy. Regular consultation with a healthcare professional is crucial to adjust doses, monitor for hypoglycemia, and manage any potential adverse effects, ensuring safe and effective long-term diabetes management.
