About

Imatirel tablet contains imatinib, an antineoplastic agent classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It is prescribed for the treatment of both adults and children diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), a type of cancer where abnormal white blood cells multiply uncontrollably. It is also used to treat Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph-positive ALL).

Additionally, Imatirel is effective in managing gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST)—a type of tumour that develops in the walls of the digestive tract and may spread to other areas of the body. The medication is also used for treating myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a group of blood disorders characterized by uncontrolled blood cell growth. It is indicated for hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and chronic eosinophilic leukaemia (CEL), conditions involving excessive growth of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell). Imatirel is also used in the treatment of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a rare cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin.

Imatirel works by inhibiting the growth and spread of abnormal blood cells.

Do not take Imatirel if you are allergic to imatinib or any of the ingredients in the tablet. Before beginning treatment, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart conditions, thyroid disorders, or if you have had your thyroid gland removed. Also, let your doctor know if you currently have or previously had hepatitis B, as this medication can cause the virus to reactivate.

While on Imatirel, promptly report symptoms such as unexplained bruising or bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion. Be aware that this medicine may affect fertility.
